New Mentoring Program

Worked with a fabulous group of people today. Mostly managers of a public agency.  Delivered the inaugral mentoring program. I’d rewritten the program the night before based on fresh research, incorporating feedback on the group I was to deliver to and put some finishing touches on before delivering it. It went very well – better … Read more

Fun At Work

Ask your team this question: “What is the most important factor that makes a workplace rewarding, satisfying, exciting, fun?“.

This is an exercise Dennis Bakke writes about in his book “Joy at Work“. See if your team respond with these types of answers …

  • Good friends
  • Good environment
  • It’s challenging
  • I get to do what I’m good at
  • Fair play
  • I learn a lot
  • Doing something worthwhile
  • I’m needed
  • I’m thought of as a person
  • Winning
  • Being part of a team
  • Significant responsibility

So, where were you going???

A lot of people become confused. Lose their way. Get fatigued with all the struggling. End up doing nothing even though they had grand plans. Why is that? The Mad Hatter summed it up in Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. “If you don’t know where you’re going it doesn’t matter much how you get … Read more

Why aren’t my staff like …

… Chocolate Peppermint Creams?

Imagine you’ve had a tough week. You deserve a treat and on the way home you buy yourself a box of chocolates. They are your favourite. All the one flavour. Chocolate Peppermint Creams. You’re home and the place is all yours. You snuggle yourself into your favourite chair, grab the remote control in case you want music or TV for company, open up that book you’ve been wanting to read, take a sip of your fine wine and put your hand in the box. You pull out a fat creamy heavily coated dark chocolate. Slip it onto your tongue. Wrap your teeth around it and …ugghhh!!!! It’s not your favourite chocolate flavour at all. You try another, and another and another and you find you’ve got 5 different flavours in your box!!

Welcome to the new workplace.

Yet we communicate every day in every way. We have more devices to communicate with then ever and these speed up the process. So, how come ‘we’ are notoriously … Read more

Find Your Purpose? Hmmm….

I recently did an experiential exercise in ‘finding your purpose’. I took far longer than I realised – time passed quickly as I was patting down walls and chairs, grovelling along a gritty grubby floor, talking aloud as I hit yet another obstacle, frustrated myself and talked myself out of giving up, analysed how this … Read more

Surrender to your spirit

The line between failure and success is so fine that we scarcely know when we pass it – so fine that we often are on the line and do not know it! Ralph Waldo Emerson. Spirit knows no lack or limitation. When you trust with all your spirit, heart and soul, your faith is usually … Read more

Create with powerful purpose

Be committed. Have a compelling reason for your goal – what will you or others get out of it? Focus your attention on what you want. A wishful thought is only a good intention until you put action in place. Take decisive action as if you could not fail. Know that the actions you take … Read more

Believe in Yourself

Avoid getting hung up on the ‘why you can’t have it’ thinking. Act as if you already have it, act as if it is yours. “Fake it til you make it”. This isn’t about deluding yourself, it’s about tapping into the hidden beliefs you had as an unspoilt child. Do you ever remember thinking as … Read more
